Dr. S. Somanath is an acclaimed aerospace engineer and the current Chairman of ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation), leading India’s most ambitious space missions and pioneering its future in space exploration. Under his leadership, ISRO successfully executed the historic Chandrayaan-3 mission, making India the first country to land on the Moon’s south pole-marking a defining moment in India’s space legacy.
With over three decades of experience, Dr. Somanath is a specialist in launch vehicle systems, known for his key contributions to the development of PSLV, GSLV Mk III (now LVM3), and the Human Spaceflight Program (Gaganyaan). He previously served as the Director of Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC) and Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre (LPSC), two core pillars of ISRO’s technological strength.
