Arunima Sinha is an Indian mountaineer and former national-level volleyball player who became the world’s first female amputee to scale Mount Everest on May 21, 2013. In 2011, she survived a traumatic incident where she was thrown from a moving train during a robbery attempt, resulting in the loss of her left leg below the knee. Undeterred, Arunima pursued mountaineering, training under the guidance of Bachendri Pal, the first Indian woman to climb Everest. Beyond Everest, she has achieved the remarkable feat of climbing the highest peaks on all seven continents, including Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa, Mount Elbrus in Europe, and Mount Vinson in Antarctica. In recognition of her indomitable spirit and contributions, Arunima was honored with the Padma Shri, India’s fourth-highest civilian award, in 2015. Her autobiography, “Born Again on the Mountain,” chronicles her inspiring journey of resilience and determination.
